Kayin State to develop farming, livestock sectors
Kayin State is giving its farming and livestock stocks a big boost this year, implementing the three main strategies implemented in every region and state, according to the Department of Agriculture. Dr Ye Yint Tun, the department’s director-general, said the first strategy was setting up Seed Grower Associations to produce rice, a variety of beans, oil crops and fruits so that high quality seeds can be distributed to farmers across the country. The associations, he said, would also create networks among the farmers, entrepreneurs and banks to gain investment, share technologies and expand market. “The second is to establish Good Agricultural Practices to promote food safety and produce crops which meet the standard, as chemical residues are found in current crop yields.
